This 90 minute class with Donald Shakes will be fun and a great way to introduce yourself to Donald’s teaching of Yang and Yin yoga. He will also incorporate his gorgeous singing bowls to soothe the nervous system and create ambiance.
The Taoist concepts of Yin and Yang describe the two qualities or energies present in everything; from our food and our bodies, to the seasons and the world around us.
Yin qualities can be thought of as more internal, passive, cooling and downward while Yang is more external, dynamic, warming and upward.
Yang yoga is the more traditional Hatha-Vinyasa or Ashtanga based asana practice that develops muscular strength, stamina, and flexibility. Yang yoga stimulates the muscles in the body, encouraging strength and great physical health.
Yin yoga is performed to stretch the connective tissues of the body. Primary connective tissues include the hips, thighs and lower spinal area. These types of tissues do not stretch the muscles (as in the yang form of yoga) but they stretch and exercise the bone and joints areas of the body. This type of asana practice is beneficial to a wide variety of people.
The class is best for those with some yoga experience and fitness.
